Insurance Reimbursement
In the State of New Hampshire, insurance coverage is inconsistent for naturopathic medicine. To date, Aetna, Cigna, United Healthcare and Harvard Pilgrim have reimbursed for our patients for visits, blood work and medications based on personal plan limitations. We provide all patients with a document called a “Super Bill” to apply for reimbursement. Currently, New Hampshire House Bill 351 has been passed through committee and is awaiting a hearing on the house floor in January 2012 to create parity with MD/DO coverage for the same services naturopathic doctors can provide. Supplements and certain lab tests are not typically covered, yet some plans will reimburse if there is a prescription showing medical necessity. We use Quest Diagnostics and Labcorp for routine lab analysis. Pharmaceutical medications are covered with usual co-payments required through the pharmacy at the time of pick-up.
Please follow the steps to apply for insurance reimbursement:
- Call your insurance company and ask for an out-of-network provider application
- Fill these forms out completely (the insurance company can deny if there is even one little mistake on the form)
- Send form into the insurance company along with the “Super Bill.”
- A check will be sent to our office or directly to you.
- Payments sent to the office are reimbursed directly to you
If you are denied and wish to appeal the decision, please call our office for further instruction.
Office Visits
A typical first visit at our office can vary in duration depending on the types of issues being addressed. In the current economic climate naturopathic medicine is very helpful and affordable for those who are currently without insurance. A 15-minute office visit for acute conditions such as colds or the flu and other common complaints are comparable to co-pays made for a conventional doctor’s office visit. More complex chronic conditions may necessitate a longer visit typically 45-90 minutes. Visits are billed on time spent with the doctor and typically involve a thorough history, physical exam and diagnostic testing when necessary.
10-Minute Free Consultations
This is a great opportunity to speak with Dr. Greenspan to establish a rapport and learn more about how she can help you. Please feel free to contact the office with questions at anytime. Please be aware that treatment advice or diagnoses are not typically given until a patient is established with the clinic.
