Ultraviolet Blood Irradiation (UVBI) is a therapeutic technique exposing a patient's blood to ultraviolet (UV) light. How does UVBI work?
UVBI works on the principle that specific wavelengths of UV light can have therapeutic effects on blood. When blood is exposed to UV light as well as red, amber, blue, and green, it undergoes photochemical reactions. Blood passes through quartz crystal tubes before high intensity bulbs before the blood returns to the body. This is typically co-administered with ozone therapy or Methylene Blue.
There are unique benefits to each color spectrum used in UVBI:
BLUE Light
Helps with regulation of the sleep cycle and body rhythms. Improve mitochondrial function. Mitochondria improve the energy production of the cells.
AMBER Light
Stimulates the production of red blood cells, helps with wound healing and healthy skin tone.
Red Light
Improves nitric oxide (dilates blood vessels), tissue healing, calming effect on the nervous system, better memory, hair growth, reduce inflammation, helps regenerate cells, restore cell function, and trigger blood flow.
GREEN LIGHT
Reduces inflammation, improves collagen production, reduce pain, improve flow in the capillaries, improves immunity, reduces blood pressure, reduce muscle tenson and migraines.
Applications of
Ultraviolet Blood Irradiation
Infections
UVBI has shown promising results in treating various infections, including viral, bacterial, and fungal infections. The antimicrobial effects of UV light can help inactivating pathogens and reducing their ability to replicate. UVBI has been explored as a potential adjunctive therapy for conditions like viral hepatitis, HIV/AIDS, Lyme disease, and pneumonia.
Cancer
While UVBI is not a standalone cancer treatment, it has been explored as an adjunctive therapy. Ultraviolet light (UV light) may have direct cytotoxic effects on cancer cells and enhance the effectiveness of other cancer treatments.
Autoimmune Disorders
Some autoimmune disorders involve an overactive immune response. UVBI's immunomodulatory effects can help regulate the immune system and potentially reduce the severity of autoimmune reactions. It has been studied as a supportive therapy for improving symptoms related to rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and lupus.
Circulatory Conditions
UVBI's ability to stimulate nitric oxide production and improve blood flow has led to its investigation in circulatory disorders. It can be beneficial in conditions such as peripheral artery disease, vascular insufficiency, and diabetic ulcers.
